Ok,
I I am a pt LE 5.11mac guy with a dual G4 450 machine, os9.22
I am not prepared to make the jump to a new rig, dont want to lose my plugs, my sys is rock solid for 24 trks and plenty of plugs.
I Love the sound of the garritan personal orch.

It will not run on os9 and I would like to buy, build a pc to run the program in stand alone mode.
I am thinking a small quiet PC with 1.5 gig of ram and a card with midi and ADAT out to bus out to my 001 ptle rig.
the stand alone mode bassically runs NI Kontact.
How much am I going to need to spend on this?

I am not sure about Kontakt but you only need surprisingly little horsepower to run GigaStudio on a standalone PC. My Garritan Strings are running on an 800 MHz Athlon with 768 MB of non-DDR RAM at 100 Mhz. I tried both faster CPU's and faster DDR memory and there was absolutely ZERO improvement in performance. Just make sure that you have reasonably fast hard disks (at least 7200 rpm and min. 2MB buffers).
I am using an RME Digi96 sound card to pipe 8 channels of ADAT into my main DAW (also RME) and it works just great. Low latency and no issues.
Hope this helps,
MisterBlue.
