Well, as scary as it is, I think for me to move forward in my own projects, it is about time to provide something for public consideration. Problem is, while I do have a little freebie website (click above to see), it only allows file sizes of 1 MB or less, so I've been resorting to very low quality .WMA's (no mp3's allowed either) to get the music heard by some of my online friends. Needless to say, it doesn't sound very good. I'm trying to find a website that allows for large .mp3 file sizes (up to 15-20 MB for a couple of my longer songs) and streaming audio, good bandwidth, etc. I know I'll have to pay something for this  but I'm not too enthusiastic about starting up an expensive website that very few people will ever use. Any suggestions?

RO is definitetly interested in this but it costs a lot of money. The problem you will have is... anyone that doesn't have a hefty private server will kill the virtual server in a month and they will shut you down. Bandwidth consumption is the killer. We will do it or work with a group to make this happen but is has to pay for it self.

To do this right...The Professional Real Server package is a couple of grand/maybe 3... a year. this would be a start. Then a beef up for our server which could be 5 to 10 grand a year more. I'm just throwing figures out, I'm most likely low.

Heya,

I own www.nowhereradio.com, where currently, your mp3 size is infinite. It's run by independent artists (like myself) for independent artists. There is a few classical artists that have compositions spanning 35-40 minutes, and file sizes close to 100MB.

It's free to sign up, upload etc., currently funded out of my own pocket.

In the near-future, I'll probably adapt the site a little bit to limit the size/bandwidth of the files, however, if you choose to upload larger files, the option will be there still, for a small charge.

Rates I'm currently working with are about $2 a month for 50MB of space, 2GB of transfer. (If you had an mp3 that was 50MB, that would allow for 40 downloads/plays). Additional 1GB of transfer would be about $2, etc.. Further, 'ad free' service would be available at a raised cost, similar to having your own host.

These rates may be waved if you participate in other programs, such as the on-demand CD programs, exisiting artist CD sales, etc.. For eg, if you sign up an album for sale, we give you an extra 15MB a month, etc..

But, right now, it's absolutely free, and I'm working on programs to keep it free, so no risk to you to sign up now, and give it a try.

I look forward to working with all of you on this board, and thanks to Chris for recording.org!
