hey i just got these 2 pieces of hardware my first 2 interfaces or what ever u call it. (I'm new to the studio scene)
I got the ultragain pro-8 because the 002 rack only had 4 preamps and i need 5 to record drums. So i got it for that.
so i wanna plug the 5 XLR cables in the Ultragain pro8 and record using that instead of plugging the drum mics in the 002 rack. The guy gave me a cord to connect the 2(002 rack and Ultragain pro preamp). How would i record the drums in the other rack instead of the 002 Digidesign rack ? thanks
I recording using Pro Tools 7 software

The 002R is your interface. The ADA8000 is 8 mic preamps with an A/D converter (analog to digital).
The 002R is your only route for recording into Pro Tools. So you don't use the Ultragain Pro-8 instead, you use it WITH your 002R.
If you can follow the signal path, it will make a lot more sense.
The audio signal starts at the microphone, through the XLR cable, into the Pro-8, out through the optical cable (aka "lightpipe"), into your DIGI002R, then into your computer via firewire.
Good luck, and don't stop reading and researching until you're a recording ninja!
