I was wondering if you guys could help me out with this. .

I'm not a drummer by any stretch of the imagination, however I have done some pretty natural sounding drum tracks using the acoustic drum samples that are included in the Kontakt library. I've been looking into DFH Superior, Artist Drums, and Artist Grooves. Has anyone been composing using any of these (or anything else for that matter)? I'm looking for something to help during composition but also to sound good enough to leave in an occasional final mix.

I may also pick up a bottom of the line V-Drum kit or something similar in the future and I guess I could use a good multisampled library.

This past weekend I picked up one of the M-Audio ProSamples volumes. I think loops are good for putting together an arrangement quickly, but they just sound too canned. I think I would prefer a very well sampled kit with maybe MIDI files, rather than audio loops.

Please share your thoughts and opinions 8)

no not the wrong forum but the question is very open and unspecific

so hard to advise

I'm sure we have seen on these forums a statement like
" ... I think maybe MIDI files and sampled kits just sound too canned and perhaps I will do better with some well constructed loops ... "

totally the reverse of what you said

so much of this can come down to genre and style of music.

Let me ask a more direct question:

Does anyone program there own drums with drumkit from hell or something similar, and if so, what kind of results do you get, do you have any thoughts on the process? I much prefer to program my own drum parts because the type of music I write isn't "pop" or "funk" etc..... I like the drums to be "custom fit" to the song. I find it difficult to take my music where I want to using loops. Plus, when people ask "who played the drums", I hate telling them I got them off a loop disc......
