I've been using them for live vox for many years. They have toured extensively (that means tossed around in airline luggage) and never suffered any problems whatsoever.
They sound good, but I haven't really compared them to my good studio vocal mics.
I usually have to roll off some bass and add a bit of high end on stage.
I have used it whenever a vocalist has asked for a handheld mike in the studio. It has worked fine most times, I definitely prefer the BK-1 to 535's, 58's and Audix.
