Yeeee Haaaa! I was off line a lot yesterday and missed this. I woke up early this morning, got the news, downloaded the software, cranked up Studio One and was good to go! So now I have an all-64 bit Studio One setup. I'm still climbing the Studio One learning curve, but I have the feeling my PT days may be numbered.

That's surprising to hear you say that. I always thought you were one of the die hard Pro Tools advocates here.

I don't use Pro Tools anymore. I feel like I wasted money on it. I can never get it to run consistently with good results. I always get errors telling me I'm using too much cpu power at 20%. I want to love Pro Tools but I can't. Not until they do some serious work on their audio engine. Where is PT 11? I'm surprised we don't have it yet.

Incidentally, this release resolves the previous issues with Sonar and UAD plugins not playing together.

Well, I have to admit that it has taken a lot to get me to change. I still like the tracking and mixing workflow in PT, and frankly I'm not up to speed yet in S1. But while I've been lucky in the past, I've been having more stability problems with PT 10 (combined with UAD and Melodyne.) S1 integrates Melodyne in a very seamless way, and that is one of my favorite tools for both pitch and timing correction.

And frankly, I'm in this middle ground situation where the big advantages I see in PT don't apply to me. For beginners, the huge amount of education, tutorials, and support are an advantage (but others are catching up.) It got me up and running very quickly. For commercial studios the "first to market" advantages are important. Everything is transportable. Those advantages have been unimportant to me for of years, but as longs as PT was running smoothly I was happy to go along. For that matter, if PT 11 comes along and is rock solid, packed with features and costs me a few hundred bucks, I'll go back with pleasure. (I'll probably buy PT 11 or 12 so that I can go back to old sessions easily.)

But I don't expect to go back. Being first to market has advantages, but it has huge costs. You can get bogged down taking care of legacy systems and customers (cf. e.g. Windows.) You can succumb to feature bloat (cf. e.g. Word.) PT's biggest advantages no longer apply to me, and it's defects are giving me problems. It's time to move on.

Oh. Take a look at the UAD Forums. I saw some problems with Sonar. May be just first day installation problems, but worth checking out.

For me this release solved all my issues with Sonar. I'm happy.
