Your thoughts on these speakers? I can get a pair fairly cheap... around 250.00 and as I have 0 monitors right now.. Ive looked for reviews but cant find any.

What do you have to say about these?

thanks!

$250 seems too good to be true for a pair of these. I would make sure they are fully functional. I had some bad luck with the Event 20/20 BAS. I used them in another studio for a period of about 2 months for a hip hop project. I've also had some one bring them into my studio but never for more than just a couple of days. I had a real hard time mixing on them. I am really used to Yamaha NS10's but as an alternative, I have some KRK K-Roks (they're the model that was out around 2000, not in current production I think) The problems I had were in midrange (probably a common issue for the chronic NS10 user). I just couldn't get any midrange instrument such as guitar and vocal to sit right or sound the way I wanted. My mixes didn't translate the way I thought they would to a typial home stereo or car stereo... or even my monitors. However, for $250 USD they're hard to beat. The bass extension is better than my NS10's or KRK's and it's fairly clean too. The highs and imaging were mediocre. But again, for $250 USD what do you expect? I also know of one studio here in Phoenix that uses the Event 20/20 BAS in a 5.1 set up. My studio and the studio I did the hip hop project in were fairly small (about 300 sqft). The studio with the Event 5.1 setup has them set up about 3-4' from the wall in a really well designed 400 sqft. room. The 5.1 mixes they turn out sound top notch (without a lot of fancy gear). So the problem could be acoustics and placement. If you were buying these new or for the current average used price, I might try to sway you toward something else. However as a second set or your very first set of monitors they're a steal at $250. I'm curious as to what type of application you'll be using these in.

Bob
