I use one (550Mhz 512MB RAM) with Logic and run several instances of EXS24, Absynth, B4 without any problems plus multiple tracks with reverbs and other hungryplug-ins I normally use it for programming whilst away from the studio or just too lazy to use the studio (much quicker to start the laptop than turn on a whole studio just to do a rythm pattern change) and use a crappy pair of PC speakers or phones out of the headphone out (i.e. internal sound card) but have recorded using the MOTU firewire device which worked fine.

Soundscape iBox24 (ADA converters + TDIF/ADAT). I was moving audio from SScape to Logic so I could work on tracks whilst away over Christmas.

I've been using the Ti/400 for quite some time with Digital Performer 3. I've been getting very good results and not once has the system locked up while recording (mixing is a whole different issue).

I once owned an 828, but returned it as I didn't think the a/d/a was as good as other boxes in the same price. Nor did I appreciate it's lack of BNC I/O. Or its unsheilded internal sync. Or its less than adequate pres. BUT, it was the only firewire box back then.

I decided to go the tried and true PCI route with an Echo Layla24 with the cardbus (pcmcia) adaptor. Been working like a charm!

The G4Ti is a great platform, so long as you're prepared to spring for the extra $$$ over the towers..to have the portability....
...there are loads of options...pro PCMIA cards with break-out boxes, compact expansion chassis (eg Magma, Metric Halo etc), firewire/USB audio interfaces/drives....the world is your whelk....

I heard whispers that due to their thin profile that they were prone to bending and there were screen crack and CD/DVD drawer issues with it.

Rumours true?

That was a short-in-battery-compartment issue, which caused the Ti to shut down when flexed on the left corner (a lap-top for those with perfectly flat laps?)....I hear that it's been solved now...
but I haven't checked a recent one...

The mixing is more of a software issue than a hardware one. The ASIO drivers that come with the Echo cards aren't that stable, nor is Digital Performer in my opinion.

As for the troubles with the Ti's, those have all been resolved. Yes the screen ARE indeed VERY thin, but I took this thing on tour with me for 5 weeks and threw it around, and it's still alive. The DVD tray problem has been fixed. Here's an interesting note however--there has been some tests done that show the older 400 and 500 Mhz models to actually be FASTER for digital audio apps than the newers models (I think they are 550 and 667). I'm using a Tibook 400 with RME Digiface via PCMCIA cardbus. I like it a lot. I'm using Cubase, and have run into the following trouble (supposed to have the same audio engine as Nuendo): When I track to 24 bit 96 khz, not all of what is leaving the A/D converters is getting to "tape". Cubase 32 also has a 32 bit recording mode, and it sounds way better at 32:96 than 24:96. I can only playback 16 tracks of 24:96 or 10 of 32:96, less with any real amount of internal processing. Anybody using 96khz sample rates on other software? DP 3, Logic? What's up?
