Hello..
I was wondering if anyone can help me with a problem I've been having for a few weeks now.
I am a DJ and frequently record sets using my laptop. Recently, I've purchased monitors which I didn't used to have. Upon hooking the monitors up to my mixer and then the mixer to the laptop for recording, I then get a static sound through the monitors, and it can be heard/seen in the recording.
I experience this problem when my laptop is plugged in, however not when I use the battery for power, so it seems as if with everything connected I'm getting a surge of power somewhere that's causing the feedback. I've tried taking my laptop to other places with similar setups and experience the same problem. I've tried using a surge protector, chaning out power supplies, different mixers and monitors, always having the same problem, so I'm assuming it's something to do with the laptop.
Does anyone know of a possible cure for this issue so I can record again, especially when I'm recording at gigs, this would be a great help.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

The surge protector I've used is also a regulator... And I've taken my laptop to other's equipment and tested it with the same problem, as well, have brought their laptop to my setup with no static using their laptop.
I'm sure it's not the way it's hooked up since I haven't had problems before getting monitors and this problem persist on other people's setups... Also, it doesn't happen if I am using the battery for power... only when I'm using my plug-in power supply.
