Whoa.. it was just a simple question, requiring a simple answer. The sarcasm is tacky and unbecoming.
Thank you for taking the time to answer though, even if you did cancel out your karma by being an a** about it.

Because this question has already been asked a trillion times on just about every audio-related forum on the internet, a few seconds with the search function will yield a trillion results without asking everyone to answer the same question that was just asked last week, and 3 days before that, .... and so on.
axel's 's not being sarcastic - he's being honest. For the simple questions you'll do everyone a favor if you search first. You'll also be doing yourself a favor, as you don't have to wait for answers.

I understand that zemlin. The search function is very useful to me at many times. But I am not on here only to find information, I am also here to connect with my musical community and meet fellow enthusiasts and professionals alike. There have been many an occasion where I have asked a simple question that has been asked and answered "a trillion" times, and have gotten a mature answer from an adult who also understands that it is within our power to allow this medium to either build walls between us or break them down. We all have now made a friendship with someone we never would have known otherwise. I realize that not everyone cares to make acquaintances, all we ask is that you don't flame those of us who do. If you are so irritated by this way, then why answer at all?
To say I'll do "everyone" a favor if I search, is an elitist and asinine statement. You have made your side clear.
Thank you for your response.

Instead of taking offense, do YOURSELF a favor and JOIN THE ELITE! The elite, in any profession or interest are simply those that have taken the time and effort to at least become aware of "the basics" and likely well beyond. "The Elite", for instance, do not have to be asked/reminded/prodded/yelled at to do a simple search(Or MANY simple searches) for most obviously simple questions. Hey! Now you know to do so! You are becoming part of "the elite"! Congratulations!(We ALL got yelled at!!! We all felt bad about it. Part of the "hazing" I suppose..?)
BTW: 50 to 100 dollars for a set of headphones is not very "elite", depending on what you want to do with them and "cost effective" is relative... There are, in my opinion, times to be "cost effective"(Sometimes meaning "cheap") and times to blow a bit more coin - this may/may not be one of them(If you have to buy 5 pairs for "the band", I'd go cheaper yet - or make them buy there own! They'll have NO RESPECT for yours!) - But, for YOUR ears, I'd go up a bit. For instance, not being overloaded with cash, but wanting to go as far as I could(Until it hurt!), I went "way up" to 150-200, for my phones... Byer Dynamic DT770's(80 ohm version). "Better" than the suggested? I don't know? I was just never a fan of Senn's or AKG's(Probably stuck too many times with old, busted versions in the studios?) - I do like the Beyer's - though a semi-fancy, shiny-new pair of any good phones would likely please me...

Now THAT'S what I'm talking about.
Substance will always be respected over laziness, even if it isn't always completely accurate.
Thanks you for taking the time to share your honest viewpoint with me. I welcome critisism that sharpens any of my rough edges. I can take even the harshest of critisism if I see the point, or someone (as in your case) takes just a moment to respond with some degree of reason and substance.
Flippant, off-hand comments never won ANY wars, but even a flash of reason has brought together enemies.

Can I take all this to mean that the HD280 is objectively and irrefutably the "best" mic in its price range?
The question- even if asked for the trillionst, or even the trillionth time, might be worth asking if it sheds new light on the subject. Maybe it would induce someone to offer a new opinion that is worth being considered.
I can see the validity in everyones thought. This is just mine.
Cheers,
Michael

thanks zemlin, that was the point, i did not wanted to appear as sarcastic, it's excactly like that: if he would have spent about two minutes surfing on RO he would have discovered several threads regarding cans around a 100 bucks, that's all.

Well, what I usually say I second the sennys 280's since someone usully recommends me before me... in this case I will second it for the trillionths time :D
and by the way, since IMHO they are the best at the 99 bucs price i will second it again when it comes up next time
and no, I don't mind... 8)

Grado SR-60. 70 bucks. Period. Game over.
or the SR-80s...about 99 bucks. THat's USD.
Caveat: they have an open back. Could make tracking vocals problematic.
Oh...and on the topic of "ettiquete"....
Asking what is the best *blanketyblank* for under *blanketyblank* dollars is very much like a back-seat rider asking "are we there yet".
Defenestration is DEFINITELY on the table as an option.

Just curious.
And I have heard good things about Grados too. I believe the famed Slipperman uses some high dollar ones. I would like to try their cheapies soon.

I seriously doubt many people here suffer from this ailment. As far as I understand, it is fairly uncommon.

hummm... I supposed you are speaking for yourself here.... either that or the defrenestation is further along than previously thought... :D
Show me someone who has never felt the urge to throw HIMSELF out the window, and I'll show you someone who has never worked professionally.
And also, show me someone who doesn't look back at his own work and see a mucous-infused pile of camel dung, and I'll show you a person who has no opinion worth hearing.

I am much more likely to have the urge to throw someone else out the window as I hear it helps quiet the nerves.
As for the language barrier....Fer yoo good ole boys that'd be uh wender....
And for youse from da right-hand side that'd be noives.....
As for mucus-infused camel dung, I dont use those Eastern scales so, camel dung would have a bit of a stretch to it........
Steamy Dog puke.....ummm closer....
Actually I kid....Everything I've ever recorded sounded incredible......Man.... 8)
No one said I had to be 100% truthful except when I'm totally the bill.

Two points. First I bought the SR-60s - then I got a deal on the SR-80s so I bought a pair. I did some comparisons between the two and MUCH preferred the SR-80s. Then I moved the earpads from the SR-80s to the 60s.
I ended up buying a pair of spare SR-80 pads and put them on the SR-60s. Now I can't tell the difference between the two. If you were to ask me, I'd say that is the only difference, and it's worth the extra $$ to get the 80s. I have yet to move higher in the GRADO line so I can't speak for the others.
For recording, IMHO, the Grados are worthless. They make almost everything sound great. I have other headphones that are better at revealing marginal mic placement or room issues. If mixing with headphones I usually reach for the Grados - but find I can't pick a reverb worth a crap with those on. I haven't actually tested reverb selection with other cans - I just go to speakers for that.
Lastly, they are SOOOO open, don't count on any isolation from them.
All that said - they are my favorites for listening to music - and I always check mixes with the grados - about they only think they'll reveal that others won't is if it's a touch bright.
I also use the grados for surgical edits, noise reduction, and other tasks where detail is important.
