Ive been recording using a Sound Blaster Audigy 2ZS's Mic in line for awhile now, and am finally deciding to take the plunge into mutlitrack recording.
I am a huge fan of Pro Tools and would like to use that as my sequencer, but I've heard way to many bad things about the digi002 (mainly regaurding the pre's and the control surface)
I've been thinking about going with a digi002 rackmount, except Ive heard bad things about the preamps on this as well.
I then heard about the Fireface, which apparently is kickass in all aspects, except, I wouldnt be able to use it with Pro Tools, correct?
Lastly, I heard about the ProjectMix I/O, which looks kick ass, except I dont know anything about how the preamps sound, and nowhere does M-audio state its specs, such as what it records at (like 24bit/96khz)...
What do you guys think I should go with? I would prefer to have Pro Tools be my program I use. . so what should I go with? Im mainly just looking for an audio-nterface(at least 4mics/8tracks simutainiously), but a control surface attached, like the digi002 wouldnt be all to bad.

My biggest issue with PT le is compatibility. You can't save OMF files with PT le and the digi translator isnt available for PT le. Most other serious software has the convert to OMF already available. For PT hd you can get the digi transater for additional $500 :shock:. Thats the cost of DP5 and you can save OMF files already. Let's not to mention, you have to use "their" hard ware. And the Digi CoreAudio app that allows you to use other DAWs with digi hardware is pretty flakey.

Haha, well it sounds like you have your definitive answer there. Although if you work in a PT studio, I can see how working in a similar format at home may be helpful to you (oops, does that make me a tool?).
At any rate, don't worry about buying an interface based on the preamps, unless maybe you are looking for a really streamlined mobile rig. The preamps in interfaces are usually sort of a cheap add-on feature. You will want to invest in outboard preamps if you care a great deal about quality. Look for an interface that has an adequate number of inputs/outputs and routing configuration for the way you like to work, stability, and decent digital conversion--although most interfaces nowadays will fall under the "decent converters" catagory, so don't worry too much about that.

Before I start I will say DONT BE A TOOL. now that I have that out of the way. First, the ProjectMix would be a step down from the 002. Second, I would stay away from the 002 and get an interface that place nicer with other software other than PT like the RME fireface or soon to be shipped Apogee Ensemble.
I am a 002r user and PT user and yes I am not recommending this route if you are going to do everything in the box i wouldnt use PT unless you plan on investing in more 3rd party plugs to be competitive to other DAWS. Other DAWS say like Logic Pro or DP5 offer more right from the start and you'll likely not have to go crazy buying more plugs.
