I now own a Hewlett Packard zd8230us notebook.

Unfortunately, it seems my M Box with PTLE 6.9 does not want to play nice with the HP's 915GP chipset (Funny though, my Fireface 800 and Cubase SX3 perform flawlessly). 9128 error as soon as I hit playback. Latencies anywhere from 80-150ms on M Box (Fireface 800 latency 1-5ms!).

A Digi article suggested a possible workaround by using a, "third party external high speed USB hub".

Does anyone know who Digi was referring to regarding, "third party"?

Are they just referring to something for notebooks like a common USB 2.0 card bus? Or is this a special application requiring a special card bus?

Hyperthreading turned off and tracking to an external 7200 drive produced no change. I assume my issue is with the chipset but am somewhat baffled that PTLE would even launch and open a session with an incompatible chipset.

Any advice and recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I think Digidesign meant, "We know whose product works... But our lawyers told us not to say any specific names."

I am just curious if anyone knows specifically what works to bypass the bad stepping on the 915GP chipset.

If Digidesign says something works for this, I want to know what they used to do it before I waste money experimenting with different hubs.

Well, I did the "on-hold with Digidesign" thing yesterday and never reached a human.

Pathetic. They are the leading digital audio company in the world and their automated call service is from 1982.

My cable company has this deal when you get put on hold. Their call management system automatically asks you for your name and call back number. Then it gives you an estimated time to expect the call back. You hang up and wait for a human to call you. It works frickin' great!

But Digi is still drawing on cave walls with feces when it comes to customer service... Damn rejects.

They will proabably respond to my e-mail sometime in 2025, but in the meantime, I found one person on the awful DUC forum that actually heard of this 915 chipset workaround. But they could not provide any definite details.

They did believe that a "powered hub" was the key to what Digi was trying to describe in their fluffy tech article. Having to plug in a powered USB hub to the wall is not my idea of a portable M Box rig. So I asked them if using a USB hub on my card bus slot would do the same thing.

No response. They probably passed out and died waiting for Digi to pick up the phone.

Does anyone here know about the power supply architecture on a card bus? I know it is a 32 bit pipeline, but does it share power with or from the notebook on-board USB? Would I get the same result, power-wise, plugging a M Box into a card bus adaptor instead of the on-board USB?

My other problem is I really want a 1394b/USB 2.0 card bus adaptor so I can switch between my Fireface 800 and M Box without having to buy multiple cards.

I can't seem to find one or nobody makes one.

I already have an email in at SIIG Inc. to find out any details on this.

BTW-I highly recommend their 1394b PCI cards! Plays nice with RME gear!

Anyone here ever seen a Firewire 800/USB 2.0 card bus? Two 800 slots and two USB 2.0 slots with switchable power on one card would be great!
