I'm trying to get into a digital hardware/software setup that will give me at least 8 decent tracks with some effects and automated mixing. I was a Mac guy back in the day but I'm trying to find a system I can afford so I’m willing to defect.
I have considered upgrading to Logic Platinum since I'm a long time Emagic sequencer user. I used Logic for the midi synchronized to
(Macromedia) Deck II for the audio tracks on a PowerMac 7100/80, ATTO SCSI accelerator card writing to a RAID array, and I used the standard Mac mini-plug as my input (believe it or not), getting a surprisingly decent signal. I made some 8-track demos with that setup (complete with effects and mixer automation) that I was very satisfied with. I’m looking to create a simple setup like that again, but most of that equipment is either worn-out or scattered during a recent move. I’m using a 4-track tape machine in the interim and it’s killing me, knowing how much easier and flexible it is to do this digitally.
Any recommendations for a dirt-cheap 8+ track hardware/software setup for basic demos? Thanks in advance.
