Until you get them XLR's just boost till the level is hot enough...even clip lights generally lie and are set to low...USE YOUR EARS....if it sounds good it is.

Ya know, I was just about to ask a ? like this.

Here's the signal chain that I was using on Vox.

Mic- McCurdy Pre- DBX 165- Recorder.
All levels are matched and well.

Then for one song I wanted to swap the DBX 165 for my RNC, I noticed that the gain of the signal dropped dramatically! Even when I hit BYPASS on the RNC.

Is that because the RNC is unballanced?

or cause the RNC's operating level is -10 and the DBX is +4 (I guessing)?

What's the best way to remedy this situation?

1- I can turn the output gain up on the RNC but the level going in is still low. (possible noise problems)

Or

2- I have a Peavey -10 to +4 box, would this be a better way? (could the extra box add more noise than boosting the output gain on the RNC?)
