Hi everybody, I'm fairly new here. I have a small (amateur) studio with some just OK, maybe not-so-good equipment.

I'm looking to improve my recordings, especially tracking that requires Micing (saxophone, flute, acoustic guitar, vocals). I see there are books out there. Anyone recommend books that would be good?

I'm looking for something that covers the basics of microphone techniques, and perhaps a second book on mixing (I'm looking at "The ART Of Mixing" by DAvid Gibson).

I've had an interest in and have "dabbled" in recording for about 20 years. My studio is modest (I don't want to tell you what I track with, although it is digital). I recently got Yamaha MSP5 monitors. I have a few outboard processors (compressor, delay, vocal producer, Lexicon MPX110, Alesis 30-band EQ). I master on a PC (consumer audio card/Turtle Beach). I also have an AKG C3000B condenser mic which seems pretty good.

I'm fairly pleased with the results I'm getting except for instruments that are miced.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Krel,

In the quick links section of this site there is a link for books. You'll find some good stuff there. Of course there are many books so yes recommendations would be helpful. I'm currently looking for something that covers more of the technical stuff. I've come into engineering after many years of being a musician and find that I have much to learn about why all this stuff works the way it does.

Hi, thanks for responding......I'm recording in (dare I say it/shame comes over me) my basement. Not much control over the sonic space there, however, I prefer to minimize room sound and use processor (reverb) to compensate....not sure this is the right approach....

I'm obviously not aspiring to be a "professional" (although that has been a fantasy of mine all my life)......I just love music and the recording process.....
