Heres my simple setup...

U87 to Avalon 737 to (undetermined compressor) to Apogee Rossetta 200 to Apogee X Firewire Soundcard to Nuendo (PC).

If i'm recording a female, i want her to sound like Britney Spears on "Everytime" lol. I record mostly R&B and Rap music. Which compressors work extremely well with vocals? My budget is $5,000. Which will help beef up my signal chain?

The 737's comp doesn't help me much, its a good preamp and eq though.

Thanks.

I agree that the comp in the 737 is the weak link. Not a fan of that unit myself. Don't know about Brtiney sounding comps, but I feel there a few basic must have comps for vocals and that can used for other things that if you don't have you need. UA LA2A & 1176, Tube-Tech CL2A or CL1B, Manley El-Op and Vari-Mu, dbx 160SL, Many more to choose from , but those seem to be more popular and widely used then others.

Cool, thanks alot man, Manley El-Op looks interesting, i might rent one for a few days before i buy it. Does it add any color or unique sound to the vocal, i mean does it have its own special fingerprints? The guy at the store said it would work well with my setup, but i'm still not shure. Thanks for the info anyway.
