Before I jump into stuff like Guitarport and things like that I decided to just test it out by buying an adapter to hook my guitar up to my computer. Right now my guitar hooks up to a Boss Mega Distortion pedal and into the computer. When I try and record it sounds great for the first 4 seconds, and then it rapidly drops in volume until I can barely hear it. This happens everytime I try to record. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what could be wrong?

The PC sound card input is not impedence matched with your guitar so that is why your signal is being attenuated. You need the guitar port or other audio interface to connect up your guitar. another way is to connect your pedal out to a mixer (Non- Powered) and then go to the sound card. You will get better results if you go with the guitar port or other other audio interface. I Answered somebody with a similar question heres the link:
