Help!

I'm working with Nuendo v1.5 & Pulsar (plus 6 DSP board).

My computer: AMD K7 1.2 GHz, 512 Mbytes RAM, 2 Hard Drives (20 & 40 Gbytes 7200 rpm), Matrox DualHead with 2 monitor outs and...
Windows 98 (puag. Why? There are NOT drivers for pulsar for win 2k).

Why is my system SO slow when I am working with Nuendo? (8 or 9 stereo tracks, only 2 Aux realtime effects, and no insert effects)

Is there any way to Limit the system resources assigned to Nuendo?

Even when I am working with Nuendo any movement of the windows is Very Very Slow.

Is Nuendo a resources hungry software?

I think that if with my system is not far enough, what kind of Plutonian or Radiactive machine I need?.

Does anybody have the answer? Thanks

Peace, Love and Music for Everybody! :)

Well..couple of things needed for information before I can truly tell you what is going on..Nuendo shouldnt be that bogged down..
First..are you on Win98SE or FE?(Second vs First Edition)
What are your IRQ listings?
Do you have DMA turned on for both drives?
What is you hard drive config? Are the two drives on one IDE cable? If so change that..put main drive on primary IDE and audio drive on Secondary IDE.
Do you have Auto inser notification turned off for your CDROM(s)?
Disabled everything in the startup?
If you have done all of these things and made sure no IRQ conflicts are happening I am wondering if you have a chipset issue..what chipset do you have with that oh so wonderful AMD? Via chipsets are buggy for audio hardware and should really be avoided at all costs.
Give me the info I requested an I'll try and help ya out the best I can

agree with previous post, I need some more
facts about your system (motherboard,other
cards,CD-rom etc). Nuendo&Pulsar combination
is very stable e.g. Windows 98SE(audio cleaned) ASUS MB AV7 133 with VIA chip KT133a!!! ATHLON 900 MHz over 120 audio
tracks or 11 ThruVerb's or over 90 voices of
PPG Wave. Your system must be cofigurated.

Agaton..just a word of caution with the Via Kt133 chipset...it has a data damager bug that is causing serious file damage to data being transfered from one drive to another!! You might want to check in on Viatech's homepage to see if they have a fix for it soon!! Just thought I'd pass that info on to you!! Also, welcome back to the forum..havent seen you around so I've been trying to help out as much as possible!!
Peace

Thanks Opus !!!

I Have no problems with Hard's and
Via KT133a (v.1.430).
Both of my disks:
-Quantum Fireball ATA66 (system)
-Seagate Baracuda ATA66 (audio)
are on Promise ATA controler from
ASUS MB A7V 133. All OK.
It is a litle bit mystery about VIA Chip
and audio cards. When all other components
in computer are first class than is no problem with Via Chip.
E.g. the best testing method for coputer chip is Waves ThruVerb. I have both: an
ASUS P3BF with P III 900 and ASUS AV7 133 with ATHLON 900. On BX 440 Chip (P3) I have
maximum 10 ThruVerb's and one mono audio track and on Via KT 133a (Athlon) 11 ThruVerbs and one stereo track, without
clicks. Both systems same configuration,
with Pulsar audio card on 25ms latency and
24bit ASIO.

More datas about my system:

- Win98 SE.
- IRQ: no conflicts.
- Hard Disks DMA: Turned on.
- Hard Disks: Independient IDE cables.
- Nothing in Startup.
- Asus Board.
- Nuendo version: 1.5 multilingual.

Another Strange thing: I've just installed Cakewalk Pro Audio v. 9.00 and... Surprise!
Pulsar works really, really fast. Latency is very slow. It´s practically Real Time.

MIDI works fantastic (it´s not strange in Cakewalk)

Audio Quality is really good and Clear.

A conclusion: My favorite ever Audio-Midi sequencer was Cakewalk. I think I will return to the program that has been always near me from the remote times of MS-DOS and no windows was sight in my computer.

Long life to Cakewalk! and... God save SONAR.
Fantastic! (I´ll tell you i´ve just started with it)

Thank you very very much to all of you who have answered me.

Le´t see if I can make work (fast) the combination Nuendo+Pulsar

Everything I get you´ll get. Thank you

Peace, Love & Music for everybody!
