I keep getting this popping/clicking type sound on by recordings.
I assume this must be some type of sync issue.

I can’t seem to get rid of it with any types of plugins.
I have noticed that if I zoom way in the wave form as a “repeated oscillation” if I delete the repeated oscillation the click/pop will vanish.

Any idea, tips, advice?

It is very intermittent and it seems to happen more prevenlently in some songs than others. One theory of mine is that once it starts happening it is like a snow ball effect.

PS I don’t think this has to do with disk buffers/latency as the Nuendo performance meter indicates less than 1% disk activity

**SETUP**
Nuendo 1.5.3
Echo Layla24
Windows XP
ASUS A7A266
1Ghz AMD
512 Mg DDR
7200 RPM disk.

Thanks,
d./

Remember....when mixing only, and adding plugins you will need to raise the buffer on the card to be able to handle the information being played out...the more data the harder a lower buffer setting will be taxed due to the heavy load...
Try raising the buffers as you add plugins and so forth...also in Nuendo use the offline processing..

Hey,

I constantly hear about AMD chipsets having issues. Especially because usb and ide are routed through the pic BUS!

I am considering going INTELL. I have contacted echo support and will see what they have to say. People have reported that the ALI chipset works. However this problem didn't pop up until I started recording more tracks.

I don't think it is a problem with the echo cuz the same thing was happening with my delta.

I have done the following:
Nuendo: buffers 12x512
Nuendo: preload to max
Nuendo: unchecked lower latency
Flashed BIOS
Returned PCI Latency to it's original value

Things I am considering if I still hear clicks
Turn off USB
Get a house clock
Get a p4 with the 845 chipset

I have done some more testing.

I had a hunch that it might have something to do with my dual monitors as I hadn't noticed it until I add the new sound card & extra monitor. I ran some tracks with nuendo only displaying on one monitor and nuendo on both.

It seems like there are some suttle artifacts in the 2nd monitor track that I don't hear in the 1 monitor track.

However there is one part of the song where both tracks start getting severe pops and clicks. Is it possible the other tracks with sync error could cause errors? Or could the project file somehow cause problems?

Thanks,
d./

The Echo cards work fine on AMD chipsets. I'm using the 760MP and a friend of mine is using the VIA 133 chipset. I did read somewhere about issues with the GeForce graphics cards used with and Echo audio card.
The Matrox dual video adapters are highly recommended and my ATI Radeon 7500 dual video card works very well.

I am just worried that it isn't my chipset that is giving me issues. I could end up spending alot of money and not get anywhere.

I already have an amd chipset. I am tempted just to get a new mobo rather than a new processor and mobo. I will look into the 760.

Is there a particular mobo that you would recommend?

Also, If I went with intell, can you make a recommendation on chipset/mobo?

I am just trying to wade through all the information and see what is true and what is not.

Hands down I hear that ALIMAJIK chipset sucks so I need to move on from that.

You say VIA sucks and I have read that alot, but I have some people saying that the KT333 is the fastest and most impressive chipset available. I am just torn between the KT333, 760, or just saying fuck it going INTELL.

Actually I am considering ditching the AMD thing and going with intell.

What do you guys think about the

ASUS P4B533 with a P4 533(512k) 2.26gig

vs.

ASUS A7M266 with 2 AMD palomino 1gig

Also,

Does it make sense to upgrade from 512 DDR to 1gig DDR. For audio applications? It is hard sense nuendo doesn't have a memmory monitor. I should fire up the windows task mngr I guess.

Well, 1GB is definately worth it IMHO..512 is plenty especially with XP but you get massive headroom at 1GB...anymore than that and it's redundant. You don't need more than 1GB of memory..
The P4B533 is a solid board..that and the 2.26Ghz chip would be smoking fast!
If you go with dual, again...STAY WITH ASUS! We don't keep saying Asus over and over again for nothing. They are the most reliable and stable boards out there..Tyan you need a specific power supply, specific ram and a good voodoo doll to mess with to make sure it gets set up properly..
I'm currently specking out a dual Asus A7M266-D system for someone...good prices out there!

Yeah, I read alot of reviews regarding the tyan and I started to get scared.

I am curiuos to know if the p4 2.2 with 512-bus woul be comparable to a dual palomino 1g with the 266 bus.

Cons ont the AMD side.
1) Echo hasn't tested the 760MPX chipset(I guess this should be close to the 760 thought)
2) 2 AMDs in one pc might be hotter than hell on a warm day

I am leaning toward the p4 since it will be about the same price. But I don't know how the performance will differ.

Hey,

So I am stilling going back and forth.

I am definately not interested in the dual processor thing. Looks like the way nuendo works is the it farms the effects out to one processor and runs it's own stuff on the other. It isn't reall cost effective for me to have one chip sitting half idle while the other is getting maxed out by my effects.

I think I wanna go with the 1 chip wonder. So the comparison would be

A7M266D with an XP2000 vs. P4B533 with P4.

the problem with that is that I am paying much bucks for a dual processor board when I don't need it. However i can't seem locate a 1 proc. board with the same chipset.

Dude...exactly! The other single AMD boards all have the Via as the south bridge...something to stay away from!
Also dual processor machines tend to have higher latency results..I believe most people have reported they can only get about 23ms at the lowest!! Not good for tracking...mixing is fine but not recording.

See my post about the new system specs...

Are you saying the dual proc machines are worse for recording because of the higher latency?

Actually, I pay close attention to everything. I'm using an Enermax 431 watt dual fan PS. Hey, it's a rack case, two hard drives, and six fans.
The memory is ECC registered DDR ram. My understanding is, you're limited to only two DIMM slots when using unregistered ram on the dual socket A boards. I think that's the case on the Asus and the MSI boards as well. I could be wrong.

anonymous Wed, 07/10/2002 - 00:46

not so with asus from what i read unless you are going to use 1024mb sticks, then you are limited to two dim slots of unregistered, 3.5GB on 4 dims registered but you can't get to full capcity of ram unless you use registered ram, but also i could be wrong too. anyways my input is, depending on what you are doing, i say save your money, keep your amd and go with asus!!! and yes increase your ram. increasing your ram will do so much for you when dealing with audio. besides, those dam intel chips are expensive ha ha :D
