Hi all,
I'm a newbie and would really appreciate a little feedback, though I suspect I know the answer...
I'm not marvelous with computers by I can get by, my bro just put me together a new pc. The main purpose being so I can record a new CD for my band. I've done this before with Cakewalk HomeStudio 9 but I want to get a little more upmarket now.
The pc has an Athlon 64 3000 (8LN-SLI I think) and is running XP x64.
I didn't know anything about x64 at the time but I'm now getting the impression that support from third party software / hardware companies is scarce.
I have been after a Firebox because it seems the cheapest way of being able to mic up a drum kit effectively, and it seems to be a fairly decent package all round.
I have looked on the PreSonus site and the Steinberg site (as the Firebox comes bundled with Cubase SE) and there is no mention of support for x64. I have e-mailed both companies but haven't heard back.
Has anyone tried this setup? I get the impression that I'm gonna have to dual boot with XP Pro as well in order that I can use the Firebox.
Just had a chat with the guy who does the pc's at work and he said I was crazy to get x64 *sigh*

On the contrary, thank you for the information. I'm very curious about XP64, but I suppose I'll have to upgrade my computer to make best use of it. It's important to know how fast the audio industry will catch up.

In order to take advantage of your computer's 64 bit processing
In order to take advantage of your computer's 64 bit processing powers, your software has to be written for 64 bit. Only Cakewalk Sonar 5 is wriiten for 64 bit users. Not to worry, as 64 bit software is on it's way from evrybody. Until then your 64 bit will function fine with 32 bit programs but you will not see any improvement in the speed it functions at.

Just got an e-mail back from Pre-Sonus to say that drivers are not available and he recommended waiting for the proper 64bit ms platform Vista. He recommends going back to XP Pro for now. Sorry to have wasted space and time...
