I RECENTLY BEGAN TO DO ALOT OF BUSING TO MY AUX. CHANNELS AND FOR SOME REASON THE I/O BEGAN SETTING ITSELF AFTER I LEFT THE FILE. THIS IS BRINGING ON PROBLEMS WITH LATENCY AND A STRANGE CONFIGURATION SHOWING 18 CHANNELS IN USE WHEN I DON'T HAVE THAT MANY IN OPERATION. WHAT AM I DOING TO MYSELF? I KNOW ITS ME SHOOTING MYSELF IN THE FOOT BUT I AM NOT SURE HOW.
I HAVE AN ADAT AI-3 OPTICAL ON THE SECOND 8 CHANNELS FOR ANYONES INFO. AND IT IS SHOWING ADAT CH. 7-8 HANDLEING CHANNEL 15, 16, BUT 17 AND 18 ARE OPEN.

Channel 17 and 18 are the spdif digital I/O. Why it would affect latency I am not sure. The I/O window has four seperate pages, and if you change the name on a stereo track you then have to open it and change the names on each left and right track. You may be double busing by routing two inputs to the same point in the I/O window. Check them all to make sure that the LR blocks don't overlap anywhere, although I thought it warned me the last time I tried it. The I/O should not have been at all affected by using sends to aux channels, unless I misunderstand what you are saying. There is a default button in the I/O setup, it may pay to hit it. With the Ai-3 Protools should show 4 pair of I/O to your Digi unit + 4 pair of adat I/O + stereo spdif, so 18 channels is right. Having all these channels available should not in any way affect latency or operation. I have all on all the time.
