I would like to try this one day, I imagine it is the true way of overcoming and 'dominating' the cymbal sound that spoils a lot of drum ambience 'room' tracks..

Any PA will do I am sure.. point away from kit I reckon....

You probably don't need great speakers to do this- the crappy PA speakers are likely to give the sound some of it's character. Try guitar amps as well. Cheers, Doc.
