Hello.

I'm having some problems with my recordings.
In my opinion al my recording sound far away not "right in the face"

Al the fase response in drums etc are OK.

But stil the total mix sounds like an simpel demo, and nog an good production.

even when I use an Neumann U87 with vocals, with a distens of 10cm in een acousticly pritty deth evirement, in the end is sound not close.
I use some simple effects like reverb and some delaying.

What is the problem?

Hi Mathjs

I just had a look at your website and listened to a song called Fading (I'm assuming this is the music you are referring to in your post ). Because it's in mp3 format and I'm listening on crappy computer speakers I can't make any comments about actual sound quality.
Anyway, the mix is all over place, piano way out in front whilst drums, guitar and bass sound like their in a different room. The only suggestion I can make here is to get someone else to mix your music for the moment and you try and learn from them.

Sorry, this is probably not what you wanted hear, but maybe someone who's listening on their studio monitors can give a bit more of an insight on actual sound quality.

Good luck

Liam

try to record everything as dry as possible
then use one reverb(and/or delay) on a single bus

try sending stuff that has to be backward(like drums) a little more out to the bus.
this is a great way to start using depth in your recordings. first get the volume balanced.
then get the soundstaging alright (panning L-R)
then try what i described above.
then redo the balance+soundstaging again.

try to make it sound as if you were standing in front of the band.
