hi there,
I would like to share you all of you what I've learne so far during teh last 2 weeks.
I've recorded a couple complete albums, 6 songs each, more of an EP than an album, completely on 2" 24trk.
After that we decided to bump everyhting on a DAW: MAC G4 with a MOTU setup.
I do have, at the moment, just 8 input on the DAW, so we can tranfer 8 tracks per time.
I started with drums and bass (7 tracks) for each song, plus another track (acoustic guitar, or electric or vocals).
Anyway. The second pass was done with all the tracks remaining, and the kick track again.
After allaining the two kick tracks on the DAW, I discovered, with great surprise, that the shift at the end of a 4minutes song was only a couple milliseconds!
I tought it was really incredible.
But as the days gone by and I'm still backupping everyhting on the DAW, and teh results are constant.

Well, I'm really surprise.

ciao

hi angelo...

yeah, I mean without sync, so this is why I was so surprised.
Anyway, no, there's no SMPTE input on teh 2408, but I don't need it know.
BTW, I've noticed I can improve teh 2ms figure by fast forwarding and rewinding completely the reel, so the tape in itself is (I suppose) correctly tensioned and distrubuted on the flange.

Hey man, that shiny new MOTU is a 24 track unit right? So why not just buy 2 more 8 channel AD/DAs and be done with it? And if you can't afford to buy yet, I'm sure there is a place near you that could rent you a couple sets. It seems like the music would suffer with even a 2 ms difference through the song, not to mention your nerves.
