I was wondering if anyone could recommend a beginner level product. I need to know what I would use to make each track record separate. I am using Cakewalk Home Studio and a 8 channel mixer. I want to be able to record all 8 channels on individual tracks. What should I use?

Well first off you will need a soundcard or break out box of some type that can handle 8 simultaneous inputs. Then, you would have to make sure your mixer has direct outs or inserts if you wanted to use the preamps from your mixer. If not you will need to either upgrade to a mixer that has direct outs or inserts or get separate preamps to use before the break out box or soundcard. For a beginner, not looking to spend a ton of cash right away I would recommend the Presonus Firepod. It's about 600 bucks and has 8 preamps that will get you started or you can pick up a used Aardvark Q10 on ebay for about 300 bucks. It also has 8 preamps built in. If your mixer has direct outs or inserts and has the 8 preamps needed you might be able to get by with an even less expensive sound card.
