this is going to be tricky, the msp5's are small. you are going to have to look for a sub with a variable crossover, that can go pretty high. You will also want to look for a sub that has variable phase shifting if you don't want to spend 2 months looking for a place to put the sub so it's in phase. Because of the higher crossover point you'll need to use, you are going to be able to localize the sub. So placing it will be of great importance. In my opinion, $200 subs aren't worth anything. You are asking a lot of just an amp for $200. You have to remember that reproducing good low end is very expensive. If you are going to use this for mastering, I don't think the msp5's can reproduce enough low end to use a sub and have in not sound like two seperate systems.

We use Genelec 7070a with great results. I know its pretty big but it works like a dream. We used to have 1032s which were sold without the woofer so we connected it with MSP5s. It stayed connected and we are using it regulary with our main dynaudio M3 system.

You're going to need something far different from the MSP5's for mastering purposes - Sub or no sub.
