I've read over this forum and related sites, which all seem to agree that it is "safer" to go with Intel chips and non VIA chipsets.
I was wondering though, is there anyone out there that is using an AMD and/or VIA chipset without ANY problems? If so, what is your system configuration and what type of work are you doing.
I really wanted to go with an AMD/Abit KT7a setup, but now I'm reconsidering.

Yes...most issues do stem from VIA based chipsets but indeed they have fixed a good deal of the issues especially with the 4in1 drivers...but the main thing to consider is the motherboard you go with...you buy a cheap motherboard you get cheap results...Go with what the hardware manufacturers reccomend..I know that Echo had some issues with teh kt133 chips but are now stable with them. AMD is definately a viable system especially for dual processors..I'm thinking of heading that way myself one of these days.. :D

I'm using a 1 gig Athelon T-bird with a Via KT133 chip.
256 megs ram
8 gig fijitsu
20 gig maxtor
Echo Darla 24/96 soundcard and breakout box.
I do 24/96 multitracking. Use Cool Edit Pro software. Run various plugins.
I haven't had any real problems with this comp. Runs just as, or if not more stable than my old P2 400 system.
I think the whole "Safer with Intel" idea would definetly apply a year or 2 ago..but now...there's not much that doesn't work with amd.
