The reason I'm asking is because if I have to buy an external Firewire drive I will, but I'll have to order it in from afar, and this will likely delay the beginnings of my next recording endeavor which I am anxiously awaiting.

I'd give it a shot. For voice / guitar track(s), what have you got to lose? I would limit the use of usb and make certain that anything that could interfere with the flow, like internet connections, screensavers, etc. are terminated.

Thanks Space! It will only be one track at a time for my own stuff anyway. I guess I'll get a firewire drive (in a couple months) for recording others just for peace of mind. I got a bit worried there as I know you dislike USB for interfaces, but I wasn't sure about hard drives. The problem is that USB doesn't transmit multiple streams of information as well?

Well, I don't push it as a means to push audio. Read the information from the link below and you make your own decision. I'm thinking you will have a better understanding why usb, to myself and many others, is not reliable, nevermind what I say about it :)

That link was great. It makes good sense now; I didn't know that they handled information so differently. Going shopping for a firewire drive... :)

An update here: the Traveler arrived and recording to the internal HD works great, however when I set Logic to record onto the external USB HD, it freezes up and gives me that rotten pinwheel.

I have no idea why this will not work. Things that make you go, "Hmm..."
