get the Neumann, that will improve your vocal sound a lot right there. I don't know if the octapre will sound that much better than the behringer 8000 though.

buy the mic! for good pres you need good bucks...
either you have around 3000 euros for the pres or the diference won't be so much!
but you can also check mackies tables! the pres may be good!

It's supposed to be better ... I don't think the Behringer pre is much worse off than your run of the mill Mackie ... it's just that Mackie products are built better (they don't spontaneously combust in the rack). Quality of the ONYX is not a know factor .. no one I know of (that I trust) has heard them yet ..

I'm not sure of the exchange rate but that doesn't sound right ... $3K will get a great pre but very good ones can be found for less. A great river MP1NV is about $1100 USD. If you shop the used market you will find a lot of good pres for much less than 3K ..

I was warned off the TLM-193. A pro friend told me to avoid it.
I got the TLM-103 and love it.
I haven't heard the 193 myself so I'm only going on his educated advice.

But I agree that for what you would have to spend, a quality mic will lift your recordings higher than a better preamp.

I just tried the TLM193 on female vocals.
They sound great,but I need to boost the behringer pre to its max to get some signal..
That means a better pre, as behrinher gets noisy when boosted up...

my cheap T-bone SC450's get a lot more signal.
tlm seems to be for crucial low volume sources...

OK I wuz corn-fused by the title of the thread ...

I personally think pres can in some cases, make more difference than anything else, even mics.

The JLM TMP 8 is $2250 usd ... 8 channels mic pres and directs with all the features ... This is a very good mic pre.

i think i'd get 4 channels of one and 4 ''another flavor'' of something different
