I have two mic pre's that I primarily use....completely different sounding beasts...
1. Avalon M5- clean sounding and very transparent.
2. Ampex 351 tube pre (still has all original electronics all within spec)- very large sounding, 3D, large headroom, when you crank the gain you get a very smooth type distortion that I find pleasing. Very little EQing involved....
