Well I personaly don't have any experience with any of these mikes but I will give it a try. I've seen many tv shows that use the KSM's for the host of the program and they sound pretty good.
I tried a couple times a AT4060 (not on a recording session only small tests in my favorite toy store) although is not the one your looking for but it sounds awesome. I will definetly go for this one but this is just me. I know that the AT4060 is around $500 more than the AT4050 but there are ways to get it for almost the price of the 4060.

I would say they're all within the same features/sound/price range. You're going to have to try each one yourself, in a variety of situations to see which one you like. (I doubt you'll hate any one of them...)

FYI, the AT 4050 and 4060 are two very different mics. (The 4060's is a tube microphone, FWIW.) You can get all the specs on the AT mic line at their website: http://www.audio-technica.com

Thanks for the replys... really I'm looking for multi pattern Mics in the 600 dollar range. I think the 4060 is just cardioid.

The 4060 is cardiod only. Most people I encounter including myself seem to thnk that the KSM44 and 4050 are to much a like to give either one a clear advantage over the other. I'm not a Rode fan but I have and use a lot of different mic's including the 4047, 4050, 4060 all on a regular basis and don't feel I'm missing out on anything by not having the NT2A or KSM44.

This months Electronic Musican has an article comparing various inexpensive multi pattern large diaphragm condensors. I just read it. You might want to check it out.
