Greetings,
I've been producing my own music for the past ten+ years. I am beginning to stretch out and bring in outside clientele.
I am more of an artist producer as opposed to an engineer-producer and have been looking at stuff that I can just throw up an know it'll sound good. I was originally thinking of going with industry standards just because I want pieces that will hold their value and help me bring in traffic(can u say Neumann?).
However I've also been turned on to newer manufacturers like BLUE, Lawson, and Soundelux that have great asthetic quality as well as construction(both very important to me). Also these mics(so I'm told) outperform the classics they imitate with better specs(noise floor,etc...). :)

I find Omni to be very important for certain sources. Some people sound like dog doo in cardiod, sound great in omni. Omni works great in conjuntion with figure 8 and cardiod for acoustic guitar setups (I like trying untraditional 2 mic methods as long as they are in phase).

sorry to piggyback on your post, but i was pondering posting pretty much the same question but pertaining to my own little scenario, so here goes:
what i have:
Rode NTV tube
Rode NT1
Royer 121
a.t. 4041 (2)
58's
57's
and a multiple choice of mics i am considering
a pair of omnis (schoeps, earthworks or B+K(DPA). these would be primarily for room mics and acoustic instuments, as well as other errant tasks.
a good (not god-like) multi-pattern (kiwi, U89/87, soundelux) for a higher quality, less tubey vocal, and of course, everything else.
and there's this deal for 2 dragonflies for under $1200, so there's always that.
how many times do you pros find yourselves busting out the dedicated omnis anyways? i'm not asking for brand name answers- more, what types of mics you feel would fill functional challenges. anyways, it's a pretty difficult to answer, insecure question, so anything you got, i'd love to hear.
thanks-
