Hey, lets make a list and start talking about the ones that work.

This is going to be very interesting but we need a list and then we'll start threads that are on going. Do polls etc.

Does this sound like a plan?

Posting to get the ball rolling on a promising subject.
Are there going to be different categories, perhaps for different platforms or types ofplug-ins(reverbs, compressors, pitch correctors, etc.), or is that too complicated? I am going to jump in here w both feet and let the format fall where it may.
To understand my bias: I unapologetically work in Protools LE, tracking mostly in my semipro (is that a term people still use? I don't want to sound like I am doing post-pro for internet porn) studio. I record dry/flat/uncompressed to the computer and process everything in mixdown. So...
I am liking my Bomb Factory compressors- LA2A on drum OHs, most vocals, guitars, room mics. I have liked compressing small amts (3-6 db) and cranking the gain on OHs and room mics- 1176 on bass, kick, clarinet, trumpet, some vocals- Fairchild on bass, kick and didjeridoo.
Bob Moog plugs- great when the track needs a little... something.
DiNR- has helped drop some distracting hiss out of otherwise golden tracks for me. I haven't been bothered by coloration. I suspect it is like many other tools: best when used sparingly.
Anyway, all you pros, take with a grain of salt my two cents- take it from a semipro (sounds like I'm STARRING in internet porn now). And yes I am the mixing triple threat, songs, a damn fine Bloody Caesar, and of course metaphors.
Cheers, Doc.
P.S. From BC audiokid? I live on Commercial Drive in Vancouver.
