Royer SF-12 on overheads

So my Royer SF-12 came today. I'm in love. Tried it on drum overhead. Just the damned stereo mic 2 feet over the center of the kit in Blumlein. I'm blown away. A beautiful image of the whole kit. Best picture of the cymbals I've heard. Lovely natural sound of the toms. For some genres I guess you'd mic them individually, but not for the country/folk/blues/Americana stuff I'm doing now. They sound clear. You really don't need anything else. I suppose I'll put a mic on the kick out of force of habit, but I really don't need it. (You would for rock.) I'll put a mic under the snare for more snap. I'll throw another mic in the room. But man I am stoked!

That's awesome Bob, I'm really happy for you.

Wait until you put it on acoustic guitars, choirs and so many other acoustic instruments. The SF series take so much guess work out of it all which makes recording even more fun than it already is!
They work like ears. They're so logically designed and naturally beautiful sounding. I love Royer mics. I can't wait to hear more about them from you.

He is doing a seminar at Sweetwater's Gearfest so there are obvious commercial tie ins, but they seem pretty natural to me. (I've bought Mojave, Royer, and UA gear in the last year and Great River is high on my list of future purchases.) There are six videos. You need pretty good transducers to get the most out of them. (I want to put some good monitors in the room I work with the computer.)

Have you ordered or downloaded the Royer CD's? [="http://royerlabs.com/democds.html"]Royer Microphone CDs and Downloads[/]="http://royerlabs.co…"]Royer Microphone CDs and Downloads[/] , wow, really wonderful stuff there and so well produced for our benefit. John Jennings did a marvellous job demonstrating their mics and titling it all for reference including what pre they used for what.

Both Millennia and Great River 2NV excel on Royer. Although I don't have the Royer V series (tube ribbons), I'm pretty confident that the Millennia M-2b (tube pre) takes Royer closer into the V world. Its a pricey investment but what a combo and some. Those two pre-amps are everything I need.

The new Neumann KH120 I have are really nice, Bob, try and demo those.
