Only on a few few acoustic instruments can I sense possably more of a complete sound quality at 192K but blindfold tested, I would not really be able to pick out the 96 from the 192 every time.
At this point, electronic music seems little to no benefit. Perhaps once you have 24 or more tracks @ 192 compared to 24 tracks @96 would the small (barely audible at all) changes "add up" to make an overall difference. It makes sense that integrating multiple tracks together @192 *should* yield enough difference to be audible everytime. This I have not tried yet, Only in 2 or 4 track have I done this experiment.
I do have some special video software implemented by Silicon graphics to turn the drives for 24/384. Special code written into Cool edit to use this. It really turns the hell out of the drive..abit too much for my system.
Better? No, tradeoff and fragmented drives.
The actual experiment that would be most worthy at this point is SRC. How much destruction goes on here?
Many have done 24/44.1 to minimize SRC artifacts. At this point, I am getting darn good sound in 24/96 to 16/44.1 Getting more flexibility with multitrack @192 remains to be seen by me as of this date.
