I am new to recording and I am looking for recommendations for a mic preamp amp rack. I currently have Pro Tools LE, Digi 002 rack & mac Pro. I want to record live drums, guitars and other instruments. Please give me two recommendations, one under $1000.00 and the other under $500.00.
Thanks!
Personally, I like the functionality, routing, and monitoring options a mixer will offer - like a small Mackie, or a Yamaha 01V...
It is perfectly acceptable to only use outboard preamps, but for me a mixer makes life a whole lot easier - you can expand your capabilities, record whole bands at one time, use auxes as monitor sends, ya know?

Under $1000:
Focusrite's Octopre, a great 8ch. preamp

The Presonus DigiMax FS

(Around) $500:
M-Audio Octane

All have line outs to connect to your digi.
I suggest, but they're over $2000 and only 2 channels:
The Earthworks 1022 - very clean and transparent.

Do you have or are you considering getting a mixer?
