The Central Station is fantastic...very transparent, surprisingly good conversion (if you need it) and a totally passive speaker path. I'm not a fan of the Big Knob...very colored, and not it a good way. Obviously there's some great high end options out there, but I get the feeling you're not in that market.

Shall we assume that you will have two pairs of active monitors, and not two pairs of passive monitors from an amp? I'm guessing yes, but just making sure all the facts are there. :wink:

You are right,i'm using Both 5' and 8' ACTIVE Studio Monitor.
And for that issue,what's your precious suggestion?

Try the SM Pro Audio M-Patch 2.

You should use balanced feeds (TRS or XLR) to your active monitors.

That's the second plug for that product I've seen this week...I'm going to have to look into it. How transparent is it?

Pretty much - it's passive except for the headphone amp, which you don't have to power or use.

i had a mackie big knob and hated it so much i brought it back.

i have a coleman mkII that i actuall got before i brought back the crappie. i a/b'ed them and it was a huge huge huge difference.

i do not even know its there (probably because i never swicth speakers because i am now out of power outlets).

I have the cranesong Avocet, really happy with it.

Another vote for the SM Pro Audio M-Patch 2.

I have it and wouldn't give it up for anything. It's very transparent! Way less than the Big Knob or Central Station affect the signal anyway.

Someone at Sound on Sound (I believe) did a review and said that with his $5K monitors he THOUGHT he could hear a slight difference in the image with the M-Patch as opposed to going straight into the monitors. I've tried it the same with my (far less expensive mons) and can't hear the difference.

It's got 2 ins, 2 outs, headphone amp, is rackmountable and is built like a tank all for $150 US. IMO you just can't beat it anywhere near that price range.

And another one for the M-Patch 2. It's good! ;-)

Totally passive design and NO colorations. And I open it too, there is alps pot and only quality stuff inside.
