Many hosts will have a simple button for summing to mono. Otherwise, some hardware mixers will have the function, too. If not, you can probably find a plug-in to do it for you. Sorry for the ign'ant question, but what plug-in formats can Pro Tools use?

In Wavelab 5.0, I can "save" a copy of the file in mono, at any time(As well as changing sample rates, etc.), to hear how things sound. SAVE YOUR MASTER WAVE IN STEREO ETC, FIRST!!! "Name" your mono file as such, so as not to get confused...

What PTLE hardware interface are you using... If its a 002 the "mono" button at the top of the mixer is a nice feature :D

PTLE uses Audio suite and RTAS

There is a number of theories here

some say drop both by 6dB and then send both to the left speaker
and some say drop by 3dB and ...

But there can be other ideas due to the PAN LAW employed by your desk and the end result you want to acheive. The PT desk is -2.5dB pan.

For the TV Editors broadcasters the mono needs to reflect how a stereo OR mono TV may handle the change.
This can be different for perceived volume and the correct handling of line up tones.
