well i plan to buy a new mixing table but i was just wondering if i needed that,considering that i've got great plugs in my soft (nuendo actually) and why not doing all the work with my computer and my sound card (m-audio 410) i compose for movies :ewqlo) and sometimes i sing directly in my soundcard with a studiov3 (art)
i know it sounds a little stupid but ..

it's important the fader sensation in musical production and mixing mostly, with the control surfaces you can control the plugs as a analog gear too, i think it's cool.
with music production, and post-production mixing i preffer the fader controller or if is posible work with analog mixing boards.

Using a mixer means you either need to mix direct to 2-track (leaving you no room for edits later) or alternatively, have a very high quality mixer (£££$$$) and a lot of outputs - you record through the mixer's preamps into the computer (one channel per input) then use the mixer's summing bus for mixdowns. With quality gear this will add a lot to your sound but when you're paying upwards of $40k for the mixer alone, I reckon you wouldn't wanna start out that way.

However, a lot of people dislike mixing "in the box" (using software) and so will buy a Control Surface, which looks like a mixer but serves a different purpose - it basically minimises the mouse work you need to do.
Surely a good thing, right? Well, some people don't have space or funds for a control surface, and some people don't mind clicking a zillion things.
