You can never lose going with an SM57 or 58. The 57's versatility is superb and I like the 57 even on some of the more unusual instruments like woodwinds and especially flutes. The Audix I-5 is a great dynamic instrument mic and doesn't do too bad for female vocals with a decent mic pre behind it.

I actually favor EV mics like the 367 or 767 for vocals but it doesn't carry as much versatility as a 57 or an I-5.

second the sm57, not the greatest mic on earth, but for the price a rock solid, very versatile 'workhorse' you always will find some use for... even after years and years of completing your mic collection...

Third the SM57...

It will stand up to a nuclear blast according to Shure propaganda(I've tested with just TNT and it held solid). Anyway, I actually hate the mic 99% of the time, but when something won't work, it will always be the go-to.

I am really liking the Audix i5.What a nice sounding mic! And built like a 57.We'll see if in 25 years it sounds as good as my UnidyneIII 57's do.
