Hi.

Quick question about computer monitor DVI cables.

What's the maximum cable length of DVI cable that can be used?

I'm considering relocating my control room from the basement to an unused bedroom upstairs. The room dimesions are better and it has hardwood floors and a higher ceiling. I would need to have a video monitor and Frontier RF transport controller down in the drum room when I record drums.

Anyone using long video cable lengths?

How long is needed?
DVI isn't VGA, fair enough, but we run a VGA for 15-20m with no problems at the Church. (so, unless you live in a high rise/skyscraper...)

If you can run VGA for 15m then I don't see why you couldn't do DVI.
Although, the big problem is that "if we can run a mic level signal for 50m, we can't we run a DVI or firewire for that length"...

I haven't measured it yet, but I'd say no longer than 25 - 30 feet.

The reason I asked is because our local computer center doesn't carry anything longer than 10' in DVI extension cables. I thought that might indicate a practical limit of some sort. I guess I could just string together a couple of extensions along with the original 10' cable.

when are they going to make computer monitors wireless like keyboards and meeces (miceies?)?

Anyway, thanks for the input.
