We all have cranky days and feel like bitch-slapping the nearest offender. Jeremy's a good guy - he probably had a good reason for it (but I'm not him, so I can't say for sure... I am "a" Jeremy, but not "this" Jeremy...)
Cheers,
That Jeremy
(Damnit! My signatures are getting more like Remy's everyday. You're rubbing off on me Remy! Perhaps it's all the Remy I drink...nope, that's Remy Martin...)
For what you're trying to do this mixer will work. I have no id
For what you're trying to do this mixer will work. I have no idea how the alesis sounds but that probably doesn't matter. What matters is you can connect it to your computer via firewire and record multiple channels into a stereo track. the rest - you'll figure out on your own no doubt.

Both the fire pod and the Alesis are nice but may be over kill for your needs.
I still have and use this little guy
http://www.soundideasinc.com/showproduct.aspx?productid=2207
(right now for monitors)
but you need to ask what is the most you will mic,
or the most input that you will use at one time.
other then the drums on a live band, lets count them.
Bass, rhythm and lead guitar =3........ lines so no bleed (I dont always mic)
two singers =5 ........mics xlr
key board and another mic =7 ......line and mic 1/4
now everyone's different and this thread is budget gear
and I still have three empty channels
There is always more to it then that,
but for recording at home its just me and the guitar
since I am my band I might bring in another singer and one more guitar.
Now you have to decide to go for looks or for functionality
