Hey guys I have finally finished all of the guitar tracks for my bands new record! They were all recorded direct into my DAW and I am planning on reamping them back out to my Mesa. Here's my question. Should I insert a compressor on the Guitar Comp track before it goes out to the Mesa (thus acting like a compression pedal which I don't have), or should I just record raw and then compress afterwards? Thanks!

I see that as largely unnecessary; sure, it would smooth out things a tiny, tiny bit, but couldn't you do that just as easily (if you wanted to) after it's reamped? Electric guitars really can't get obnoxious peaks like drums, bass, and vox can when going through an amp. I will admit that I put a very, very, very, very slight limiter on everything including electric guitar just to make sure I'm not going to even slighty clip at any point, but this is to facilitate loudness and not pristine audio quality.

I would hesitate to add anything of any sort to a reamped track going out to the amp. You're gonna want to get the best signal you can and let the amps' magic happen. You're going to print this track anyway and thats where I would apply any necessary compression or signal alteration if needed.
The sound of the amp itself is going to be somewhat compressed as it is....tubes and iron and speakers and all.....
