I wish I could be of more help, but I use Partition Magic 8 to create partitions.

Hey Kurt. :D This is easy as pie... just 10 simple steps!

Go to the start menu.

Choose 'Run'.

Type 'mmc' and hit 'OK'.

Go to the 'File' menu and choose 'Add/Remove Snap-in...'.

Click the 'Add' button.

Select 'Disk Management', click 'Add', then click 'Finish'.

Click 'Close' in the 'Add Standalone Snap-in' window.

Click 'OK' in the 'Add/Remove Snap-in' window.

Double click 'Disk Management(local)'.

Selcet your drive, right click on it, and choose 'Format...'

And you're done!

Kurt, I PM'd you back. Double check those jumpers and use Disk Management and all should be fine.

BTW, Disk Management can also be accessed through Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Computer Management and then selecting the Disk Management tab.

Or you can access disk manager even quicker by right clicking on my computer and selecting Manage!! :D

Make sure that you set it up as an extended partition and not a primary one as well!!

Western Digital drives are different on the jumpers.. master drives have no jumpers and the slave is the slave position indicated on the hard drive

remember though windows xp by defult dose not have "my computer" on the desktop, and you have have it setup as a link not a menu on the start menu to acsess it using the manage trick. its just an old habit from when i was a tech to do things the hard way (unless time was an issue) because thats the way every one else's computer was setup.

The cool thing is now I know how to do this ... it's like having a tape cart I can remove and replace. I'm gonna like this!
