I am recording a demo with my band. Weve been recording to a Roland VS-890 (when we need to multi track simultaneously) then we are sending two tracks at a time out the digital out into an M-Audio Audiophile USB. Then the tracks record to Adobe Audition. Some tracks are coming over fine. But some tracks pitch is being altered as much as up a whole step.
Has anyone else had problems like these? Why does it happen? Where in the signal chain does it happen? What can i do?
Hmm... sounds like a difference of sample rates. 48 kHz to 44.
Hmm... sounds like a difference of sample rates. 48 kHz to 44.1 kHz is about 1.5 half steps, so that's probably it. I assume you're using SPDIF. Make sure your clock source on on the M-Audio card is set to 'SPDIF', 'external', or whatever would indicate that it is using the VS-890 as the clock source. Also make sure that the sampling rates on the two devices are the same.
