Hi! I have asked something similar some time ago, but here it goes again...
What about this Waves Master bundle? Is the equalizer a big leap from Q10?
Wahat about the mukltiband compression? I have seen some people comment that it does not f**k the overal balance too much as C4 and MAster X...
Seems it also comes with L2. I hate L1/L1=, is L2 software version really cool?
Wahat about the dither?
Also, in NYMiami area.. where can I find it for a good price?
Since Spam is not nice, any info can be directly sent to studiodp@terra.combr
Many thanks in advance!
Nice week!
:)

1. L2 is not hotter than L1, but it's really more transparent.
2. Dither of L2 is not similar to L1, it's completely different.
3. For shootout of dithers - look at http://www.24-96.net/dither

I just got a project that I had mixed back from a very reputable mastering house here in NYC. The client had debated about whether to spring for professional mastering. They went for it, which we all thought was a good did since I had done the mixing, and had probably lost objectivity. I did some serious A/B comparisons between what they did, and what I had done on my own, primarily just using the L2. The final result was indistinguishable on several of the songs. The L2 is great. The C4 is great too, if you need to fix something in the mix, so I'm sure the Linear Band is even better...

None, really. Some songs need EQ, some dynamics processing, occasionally someone needs the powerful surgery of multiband comp, often some limiting is necessary (almost always with loud stuff).
Dither at the end, just after limiting. Other than that, do what the song needs, and don't use any more garbage than necessary.

The waves stuff is really great. There is nothing out there that comes close for the money. The only step up from here is hardware and the price jumps very high.
As far as a chain goes, it depends on what is needed. Sometimes nothing is needed and sometimes I throw everything including the kitchen sink at it. But the limiter and then dither should be the last things in your chain. Plugins are a little less touchy in their chain order but outboard can react very differently when changing their order. An eq can sound different even when applying no boost or cut just by changing where it is in the chain and the level going into and out of it. Try doing everything you can think of and learn how it reacts.
Sure something comes close for the money! http://www.Voxengo.

->try the Curve EQdemo
Also, the LinEQ isn´t really nice sounding when substracting frequencies in the mid-region. Try it!

Alecio,
I can’t really add anything helpful on plug ins for mastering as I have only outboard gear. I like having knobs to turn. I do use Cedar DeNoise and POW-R dither but those are written for the SADiE platform and are not TDM or MAS versions, although they may be available…
Over the last year or so I have worked on a couple recording projects at other studios that were all coincidently using Digital Performer and I have been impressed with the Waves stuff. I have never tried to master with it, but it sounded great and was easy to use.
Cool web site you have. Looks like you have a nice set up. Are the guys on the Equipe page your band or just musicians available for sessions? Do you have a CD of yourself playing?
The Comprar and Discografia links gave me this message:

Hi Doug! Thanks for your nice comments! It is a shame that my page has not been updated lately.
The message you got is because someone removed that partfor updating but...
I have a Cd that will be released at late 2003. If you wish, I can send ya a 4MB preview of a few songs. The Cd is just 3 years delayed. Lol
I produced lots of independent artist and a few major label stuff here. My studio is small, based on PT/02R/Plugs/ADATs but have a very nice live room .
If ya come to Brazil please just let me know it. You and Uncle Kurt are my guests.
Nice friday!

Oh, sorry I forgot!
The guys sometimes play with me and soemtimes work in the albums of solo artists.
They are very good, two were considered the best violonists in the south of Brazail, another one was at Berkley and was invited by a power trio from Berkley to play with. He was substituting the guitar player, I forgot the name now....
Frank Gambale liked him too.
I am trying to make my album not too ego. In fact I am playing 95%, composed, recorded, edited, mixed, mastered, sang, sequenced.
It is very 80´s, with influences of Lisa Stansfield, Toto, Tears for Fears, Michael Jackson, George Michael, INXS, New Order. I dunno if you enjoy this.
Just let me know!!

The EQ is top-notch. The best native eq I´ve heard. It´s an enormous leap compared to Q10. LinMB kicks serious ass, when used intelligently and is much cleaner than C4. The L2 is extremely transparent and comes with one of the best dithers in software. I did a shootout a couple of months ago, comparing different dithers, and the Waves dither seemed to win that one, compared to UV22, plain dither, Cool edit´s dither, etc. L1 does not match up to L2, but the dither is the same. The entire Masters Bundle oozes quality and sounds fabulous.
