The AKG C414 is a condensor mic. It requires what they call +48V "phantom power". On the presonus eueka preamp front panel there will be a button labeled "48V" press that to power up your microphone. Remember to turn it off when you unnplug the mic. Also, make sure you don't turn on the 48V phantom from the Maudio interface at the same time.

hey casper, thanks for taking your time to help. for some reason its still not working for me. im just testing it out on the voice recorder that came with windows xp. still no go. any other ideas? maybe i set it up wrong?

If you haven't tried already, try eliminating the PreSonus to narrow down your problem. If it still doesn't work, you know where to focus, and if it does work, you know where to move next.

You haven't mentioned which program you're running. Make sure you have everything properly set up there, too.

im using sound forge and sony vegas both newest edition.

i did try using the mic without the presonus, and still no go. im thinking i might have something set up wrong?

but everytime i talk into the mic, the led blue light -20db flashes everytime noises is made.

I would take the mic and pre amp and plug them into something like an amp hooked to a speaker and test them first. If it works there it is a problem in the box. You can then start checking your program routing and hardware setup on the computer once you know the mic and pre amp are good.

edit:
I noticed on the other post you made you said the mic and pre work so your problem is how you have the recording program working. The windows recorder would also need to be set up right in the control panel to record through it so it is not a way to test things. Just go through all your settings in your audio program I am sure you overlooked something obvious. Go through the program tutorials that come with your software or look for some online tutorials to help you with getting started.

make sure that on your sound properties, that nothing is on mute. its the little speaker icon in the bottom right corner. i know its simple and you probably already know, but i would mess up with that sometimes.

There are two threads on this topic in the same section of the board:( I commented on the other one but will try and stick with this one instead since it is getting more 'action'.

The M-audio is a USB interface, not firewire. Connecting the output from the Presonus pre-amp to the mic input of the M-Audio doesn't seem right (use the Insert jack instead).

My suggestion is to remove the Presonus completely. Plug the mic into the M-Audio pre-amp. If that works, then we know the interface side is fine. If it doesn't work, then there is one less piece of hardware/connections to sort out.
