I am very new to this as a necessity to help record a budding country band both live and in "studio." I am starting with a personally-built comp with:
ASUS mobo
PIII 866
384M memory
20G WD HD
and MOTU 1224 SC (just installed)
running:
XP Pro
Cool Edit Pro.
Questions:
1/2. I am planning on adding some storage (scsi or IDE?). If I am recording 8 tracks during live gigs, how much space do I need?
3. Do I need a different software recording program (no fights, please)? I have used Cool Edit a couple of times with a previous SB Live card without incident and it seems to work OK, although I have yet to test it with the new MOTU.
4. Am I missing anything?
Thanks,
A

Each mono track requires about 5 MB per running minute at 16 bits with a 44.1 KHz sample rate. Double that for stereo, and use other multipliers for other bit depths and sample rates.
