First of all i'd like to say hello this is the first time on the site just found it like a hour ago wish i woulda found earlier.

Okay what I'm tring to do is take the 5 channels of audio F.left,F.right,Center,Sur.Left,Sur.Right from my HD dishnetwork DVR622 via optical to my MOTU 828mk2.Heres the chain from the DVR optical out to Marantz sr5001 receiver into optical port2 then optical out of receiver to optical in on MOTU 828mk2.when i open cuemix there are the 8 ADAT levels and there is a audio signal in each of the channel level strips. But each of the levels in cuemix under ADAT1-ADAT8 are clipping,so i lowered the levels and muted each channel,on the front of the motu828 ADAT in is lit up. when i plugin the headphones to hear all i hear is high tone static,At first i was thinking that the MOTU couldn't decode the signal but the receiver is doing it dishnetwork decodes in DolbyDigital/PCM,DolbyDigital Only and PCM only iv'e tried each of these settings and i still get the same static. Then i thought maybe the optical cable had cracked so i tried a new one still same problem.
In MOTU Audio Setup i have Optical input set to ADAT,Optical output set to none cause from MOTU i want it to go into logic pro 7.
Now this is as far as i have got i figure i should get sound out of MOTU headphone port first then figure the rest out getting it thru Logic pro.
Hopefully this makes some sense cause its kinda bothering me i wanna figure it out.
Thanks in advance to anyone that can help me out a little.
On another forum a member stated that I'm tring to go from S/PDIF optical to ADAT optical and it won't work.first off i dont see anywhere on the Dishnetwork VIP622 or the marantz sr5001 receiver stat S/PDIF or ADAT or whatever. If this is true do the have some sort of converter if in fact it is S/PDIF to ADAT?
Thanks Agian-Joey

This isn't going to be possible.

Yes, the optical outputs on the stereo are S/PDIF...and not compatible with ADAT. That is why you are hearing that lovely cacophony.

In the Marantz manual the digital outputs are described as...

"For digital output, there is 1 coaxial output and 1 optical output. The digital outputs can be connected to MD recorders, CD recorders or other similar components."

I know you want the full 5.1 audio but you aren't going to get it...at least not this way. You also cannot connect the audio out of the satellite reciever to the ADAT input of the 828. Again, the formats are not compatible.
You can however connect that output on the receiver to the S/PDIF inputs on the MOTU and record the 2 channel audio.

Do they have a such device to convert the spdif signal to adat? I'll do some research on this but if you guys know of anything let me know thanks. At the time i have the dvd player to motu and i can pull the 5.1 channels but i thought it would be cool to do it str8 from the dishnetwork.
Thanks-J.Dolce

you are the MAN! Duhh.. i didn't even think about it. do you know of any decent converters off hand?
Thanks...Greatly appreciated
Ps.I noticed when i open up MOTU cuemix under the spdif channels there's only 2,If i use a optical to coax converter how will the channels show in the cuemix? Under optical?

That would be a Dolby AC3 stream(Dolby Digital)!!! Your best bet would be to use the receiver to decode the stream, and record the 8 tracks of analog audio from the receiver to your interface.

If you just want stereo, switch the output (in the menu) of your sat box to PCM.

Thould show up as a SPDIF stereo pair, In Logic they showed up as channels 9&10.
