I'm ready to jump into Samplitude but want to know whether it's worth the extra $ for the realtime room simulator/convolution that Version 8 Professional offers vs the offline room sI'm capability in Version 8 Classic. All my work involves remote recording of classical music concerts (heretofore live-to-2 track) and mixing to stereo, so the additional features offered by Professional don't seem necessary.
Thank you for your advice!

I am working with the Classic version and I am really considering an upgrade just because of the real time/offline issue. It is a real pain to always have to think twice about a little change in the reverb ratio because it takes so much time to recalculate everything. It is also a problem of disc space if you want to compare two or three different versions of a recording.
Best regards

Trust me, go for the professional. The live reverb is well worth it. Besides, you never know when a client will ask for surround sound and hey, you'll have it.
But seriously, the live reverb is a must have. I simply can't imagine *not* having that capability. It takes so much time in "realtime" to get the reverb right, I wouldn't want to even imagine it if I had to render/undo/render/undo, etc.
Plus - elastic audio - you'll get addicted!

How about this for a cheapo solution.
Buy the Classic version and download the demo of the Pro version.
While you can't save in the demo, you will be able to try out room sim settings in real time, and then apply them in the Classic version.
Of course this will have consequences in terms of workflow, but it depends on how you work.

(Oh, wait - that's the pot calling the kettle black... I've been known to send a snippet of audio through the reNOVAtor demo out of the PC and then back in onto it's own track and then crossfade it in to the original thus having a "license free" version of reNOVAtor. Of course, I do intend to buy it cuz that's a big pain in the A$$... )

Hey Jeremy!
It's a pity I didn't think of my perfectly legal scam before getting the pro version
BTW I think reNOVAtor is scary. I never really believed it could be that good, but my demo has timed out
One thing that surprises me is that there doesn't seem to be any independent source on the Internet where people show off their room sims. There are so many unofficial sites for every other piece of software I use.
But yeah, I have to get me reNOVAtor, even just to play with it.

Hey Jimbo;
I don't know all the differences between the two (Classic vs. Professional), but I am suprirsed to hear the room sim doesn't work in real time in Classic. (I wonder what else is crippled?)
Personally, I cannot imagine working without the room sims in real time. Aside from hearing the one-shot triggers of the sounds, how can you know what your stuff sounds like? Unless I'm missing something, that just seems like an awful lot of wasted time - rendering or freezing an effect before you ever hear it. What if it's too much? Not enough? Too dark? too sizzly?
I would imagine the time you save on this feature alone would make the Professional version a better choice, esp if you're now doing multitrack classical recording. No doubt there are other features that don't work in RT, and you'll be thrilled to find out what you can do (FFT is probably another one? EQ and DeHissing as well?)
If you're going to be doing a lot of work like this full time, the upgrade cost is a small price to pay vs. your time spent waiting around on each project. I've created quite a few custom presets of various Room Sims, EQs, comp/limiters, etc., and even with those, I can't imagine not hearing them in real time, so I know where I need to go next.
